Students should apply up to two months before these deadlines to ensure admission to the University at New students must be admitted through the Prairie View A& M University Office of Admissions before being considered for acceptance into the College of Nursing. Prairie View A& M University offers degree programs through eight colleges and schools and the Northwest Houston Center. Nursing is a popular major for undergrads because it includes practical training in the field that gives students experience with patients. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is open to new students and those with a nursing license. Students can also make the transition from a licensed vocational nurse or a registered nurse to a BSN degree through the universitys LVN to BSN and RN to BSN programs. They can graduate in 12 months or less.
The Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences can help students earn degrees in music, theater and behavior science. It is one of the only 185 schools in the nation that offer Steinway pianos that students can use in their classes and during practice sessions as well as when they perform in front of others. A Bachelor of Arts in General Music is available with concentrations in voice, piano or instrumental music. The same concentrations are available in the BA in Music Education program, which helps students teach music and singing to others. Other majors open for undergrads include nutrition, agriculture, management, social work, marketing, and computer science.

Master Of Science In Nursing
The program objectives are designed to accomplish a Master of Science Degree through three degree programs: Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Education and Nurse Administration. Upon completion of the program, the graduate is prepared to:

How Many Applications Do You Receive Each Semester How Many Students Do You Accept
Generic-BSN Program: The College of Nursing receives approximately 300-400 applications for the Generic Nursing Program each fall and spring. Of the applicants approximately 75 students are admitted each semester.
LVN-BSN Program: The College of Nursing receives approximately 30-50 applications for the LVN-BSN Program each fall and spring. Of the applicants approximately 20 students are admitted each semester.
RN-BSN Program: Approximately 15 students may be admitted for this online program.

Tuition And Financial Aid
PV charges undergrads $5,393 per semester for enrollment if they take a full course load and are Texas residents, which includes all their fees and tuition. Nonresidents pay $12,827 every semester for full-time enrollment. Undergrads pay an average of $2,574 for their room and board every year. The university has resident and nonresident rates for graduate students too. Those students pay $3,815 every semester as a resident and $8,295 if theyre not from Texas. Both rates include all their fees too.
The FAFSA helps all students qualify for financial aid such as one of the jobs that are part of the work-study program. Undergrads can work up to 10 hours every week, but graduate students can work more hours and get advanced positions working for their professors. Some grants go to Texas residents and other students as well as scholarships for undergrads and advanced students. PV also helps students qualify for PLUS, subsidized and unsubsidized loans. To get loans and other financial aid for any of the degree programs offered by Prairie View A& M University, students must submit the FAFSA.

Master Of Science Nurse Education
The Nurse Education degree prepares nurses to teach in a variety of settings including the teaching of patients and their families, nursing students, nursing staff and health consumers. Through a five course sequence, students gain necessary teaching knowledge and skills to prepare them to become nurse educators, a complex role that requires both pedagogical and clinical competency. The nurse education curriculum requires students to complete 15 semester hours of core content, 15 semester credit hours in Nurse Education specialty courses, 9 semester hours of clinical practice core courses and 6 semester hours of either a thesis or non-thesis option. Two practicum courses are required: classroom and clinical instruction for a total of 240 hours. This course of study prepares nurses to take the National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Education Examination.

Doctor Of Nursing Practice
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program is a Post-Masters program designed for nurses who are certified in the family nurse practitioner role.
The program is 39 credit hours and it can be completed in 19 months or 28 months . The required courses represent didactic, a practice residency, and a capstone project. The program is presented in a hybrid online format with required face-to-face meetings and is offered at the College of Nursing and the PVAMU Northwest Houston campuses.

I Am In High School Or Have Never Attended College And I Want To Earn My Bsn From Prairie View In Nursing What Should I Do First
Students should first contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at to obtain information about admission to the University. The Office of Pre-Nursing Advising in J.P Coleman Library is also available to assist students in planning and scheduling their prerequisite courses. The first two years of study will be devoted to completing Core Curriculum requirements including the nursing prerequisites. Students seeking a first bachelors degree are admitted to Upper Division Clinical Studies in the spring and fall semesters. Students must complete all lower-division courses, the pre-nursing examination, and all other requirements, prior to matriculating to upper division studies at the College of Nursing, Houston Center.

Can I Finish My Prerequisite Courses After I Begin The Nursing Program
No. All courses must be completed and documented at the Universitys Office of Admissions and the College of Nursing by the first day of Orientation to Semester I. Specific instructions are located at www.pvamu.edu/nursing. Prerequisite courses may only be repeated once to earn a grade of C, and no more than two prerequisite courses may be repeated. NOTE: A course that was repeated and then passed is still a repeated course.
Master Of Science Nurse Administration
The Nurse Administration degree prepares nurses to serve in a variety of leadership and managerial roles within the health care delivery system. The Nurse Administration curriculum consists of 15 semester hours of core content, 12 semester hours of nurse administration specialty content, 9 semester hours of electives in business or health informatics, or a combination, and 6 semester hours of either thesis or non-thesis option. Business courses provide the student the opportunity to learn business skills that further enhance their administrative backgrounds, where health informatics courses provide a background in the area of informatics. The course of study prepares nurses to take the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Certification Examination in Nursing Administration, Advanced.

Students are able to go forward with their studies to the masters program after completing the BSN. The BSN program takes four and a half years to complete and prerequisites are completed at the main campus of Prairie View A& M University or transferred from another accredited college or university. If you are planning to apply for upper division, the following must be completed PRIOR to enrollment in order to meet hospital requirements for the clinical experience. Students not complete in the following will not be eligible for admission to the upper division.
The following are required BLOOD TITERS. A blood titer is a blood test to determine if you are immune to the identified diseases. You must obtain the titer and a full lab report that shows your results AND the reference range for each blood test. Review below for more complete information.
The following MUST BE COMPLETED before enrollment in CON.
Summary Statement Re: titers : Need MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C. The goal is to reach immunity as demonstrated per a blood titer. If initial titers are negative, must complete the series and post vaccine titers PRIOR to semester of admission. Desired results for MMR, Varicella, and Hep B POSITIVE Desired result for Hepatitis C is NEG. Note there is a NEW Hepatitis B vaccine that requires only two vaccines 1 month apart.
All 4 titers can be drawn at the same time. Titers are good for 5 years.
