On this page you will find an accurate and constantly live set of clocks that shows the difference in time between PDT and GMT. When comparing these two time zones, there is a seven hour difference between them. Those seven hours of difference crosses the entire North American continent and the Atlantic Ocean to reach the other time zone.
You will also notice above that we have provided a chart that shows the time difference for each hour of the day, making it quick and easy for you to convert between the two zones. If you would like to do the conversion yourself, here is an example to show how it?s done:
If it is 10:15 AM in the Pacific Daylight zone, then you would add seven hours, which means it is 5:15 in the Greenwich time zone.
The reason that you add these seven hours instead of subtracting them is because the Pacific Daylight zone is offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by -07:00 hours. Since the Greenwich zone is not offset at all and is in UTC 00:00, we add seven hours to reach this time zone.
Pacific Daylight Time
This time zone is in effect from March to November each year when participating locations are observing Daylight Saving Time. The clocks are shifted forward an hour which puts this time zone into effect. Major cities in this zone and their respective population counts are as follows:
Greenwich Mean Time
The original methods of telling time relied on the sun and the orbit of the Earth around it. In the 1800?s, everyone had a different time standard based on this concept of solar time. Technology was rapidly advancing though, and with the invention of trains, the time it took to travel from one place to another was suddenly cut down.
In 1884 the Meridian Conference was held where twenty-seven countries agreed on a system of telling time that is very similar to what we use today. This system brought about 24 meridians of longitude that were each drawn fifteen degrees apart from each other. The first line was known as the Prime Meridian, and it was placed at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in England. This location was chosen as a result of its rich history where it was used by sailors to calculate their longitude using Greenwich as a reference point. This time zone is also referred to as Universal Time (UT).
